Fatal Fantasy
by Chad Walker
Christmas is the time for Santa Claus, reindeer and presents… or so our culture would have us believe. They focus on fantasies rather than the birth of the Messiah. It is easy to distinguish the fallacy of Santa in relation to Christ. After all, who wants an uninvited fat man in a red suit in their home at any time? Yet, so many times we will allow other forms of fantasy with much less innocence to infiltrate our homes. As with Christmas, our culture is producing books, comic books, movies, video games and much more to engross young and old alike in a “fantasy” world. Whether allegorical or obvious, the occult or demonic activity are presented as an acceptable avenue by which to explore out of the ordinary experiences in a whole new world. However, this influence causes Christians, especially teens, to lose their innocence toward wickedness and a power that is not enlightening but destructive.
The life of a Christian is a constant vigilance to keep the home a place of safety and honor for the Lord. Parents, your teenager(s) need your guidance and instruction in the right forms of entertainment. The Bible says “Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober” (I Thessalonians 5:5-6).
